When you join Nevada Farm Bureau you are directly joining your local county Farm Bureau. The local county Farm Bureau, which is comprised of leaders and a board of directors is a member of Nevada Farm Bureau.
Nevada Farm Bureau is a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation, which is based in Washington D.C.
Central Nevada County Farm Bureau consists of Mineral, Esmeralda and Nye counties. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture, there were 294 farms/ranches in these three counties.
Churchill County is an important agricultural producing county in Nevada. Fallon is home to the many dairy farms, alfalfa farms, cow/calf operations and more. Fallon has a diverse agricultural communinity with new and alternative crops such as wine grapes and teff. The largest goat dairy in Nevada is also in Fallon. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture there were 504 farms/ranches in Churchill County consisting of 249,832 acres. The average size farm is 496 acres.
Clark County is the most populated county in Nevada and is home to Nevada’s largest city, Las Vegas. However, you don’t have to travel far from the heart of Las Vegas to find agriculture. Las Vegas is home to R.C. Farms Nevada’s largest pig farm and is home to Blue Oasis Shrimp Company which farms shrimp for Las Vegas restaurants. Other Clark County communities such as Logandale and Mesquite have cow/calf and alfalfa operations. The 2012 Census of Agriculture states there are 179 farms/ranches. 91% of farms in Las Vegas are family farms.
Douglas County Farm Bureau includes Douglas County and Carson City. It is home to a variety of agricultural commodities with the number one commodity being alfalfa. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture there are 239 farms/ranches in Douglas County with an additional 17 in Carson City. Total acreage across the two counties is 119,280. Douglas County is home to eight Centennial Farms and Ranches. A Centennial farm/ranch has been in agricultural production for at least 100 years. Douglas County has a rich agricultural history.
Elko County is known for their large ranches and wide open spaces. Total acreage for farming and ranching is 2,180,039 by far the largest total acreage in Nevada. The 2017 Census of Agriculture stated their were 526 farms/ranches in Elko County with the average operation being 4,145 acres.
Humboldt County is the alfalfa hay capital in Nevada with 216,000 tons produced in 2009. Humboldt County is also the potato and mint capital of Nevada. Wheat is also grown in Humboldt County. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture there are 298 farms/ranches in Humboldt County making up 990,113 acres.
According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture, Lander County had 117 farms/ranches consisting of 329,373 acres.
This southern Nevada county has 166 farms/ranches according the 2017 Census of Agriculture. The averaged sized agricultural operation is 399 acres. Lincoln County is home to the Nevada Farm Bureau President.
Lyon County is the number one ag producing county in Nevada. Lyon is home to garlic and onion farms along with beef cattle and alfalfa hay. Lyon County agriculture is very diverse with new and alternative crops entering the farming communities. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture there are 312 farming/ ranching operations. Lyon County is also home to the Nevada Farm Bureau Vice President.
Washoe County is the second most populated county in Nevada behind Clark County. Washoe County is the home of Reno. One doesn’t have to travel far from downtown to find farming and ranching operations. The University of Nevada, Reno is also here where the College of Agriculture is at. According to the 2017 Census of Agriculture there were 353 farms in Washoe County, making up 501,310 acres. 97% of farms in Washoe are family farms.
This eastern Nevada county has 176 farms/ranches according to the 2017 Census of Agriculture. 96% of farms in this county are family owned.
